We're looking forward to R2R in just under two weeks. For any attendees joining the OA books workshop we thought a few pre-session reads might be useful. First up here's a bit more information on what we hope to cover in the session:

Workshop: Open Access Requirements For Books: How can we support authors with requirements for open access to books?

Several new policies are setting out requirements for OA books, notably UK Research and Innovation's policy (January 2024) and the Office of Science and Technology Policy's recent announcement on immediate access to research outputs. The session will identify the current landscape for policy change and the likely areas/common questions publishers and institutions will need to address for authors.

Workshop approach

The workshop will identify the stakeholders, processes and communication touch points at each stage of publishing an open access book – pre-submission; during publication; and post-publication. We will encourage attendees to consider the views and needs of all stakeholders involved, with the goal of developing an action plan to address the key issues and pain points.

What do I need to know?

No specialist knowledge of OA books is required, and a landscape overview will be provided as an introduction to the session, but we do encourage participants to explore the OA books Toolkit (https://www.oabooks-toolkit.org/) as an example of available resources in place for OA books, to which we hope to recommend updates as an outcome of the workshop.

Looking forward to hearing views and ideas from stakeholders involved in open access to books. So much I don't know. Great opportunity to get an up to date snapshot of forthcoming requirements and ideas for efficient management of open access to books.

Thank you to everyone who attended the workshop 'How can we support authors with requirements for open access to books?'
We will write up a summary and use this forum to invite contributions to the planned actions.

In the short term the as yet untidied notes document can be viewed here https://bit.ly/3IAtEIL
