How can we better communicate SDG-related research to professionals who influence implementation and policy?

Facilitators:
Gerald Beasley ♦ Former University Librarian at Cornell University
Nikita Lad ♦ PhD candidate at George Mason University
Ratna Lindawati Lubis ♦ Professor, Economics and Business Telkom University
Jo Wixon ♦ Director, Portfolio Strategy at Wiley
Roger Worthington ♦ Former Faculty member (Internal Medicine) at Yale University

If we are to achieve a future where the SDGs are fulfilled, we must ensure that policy makers and practitioners (readers) are well informed and up to date about scientific principles and research findings on sustainability. Delegates will have a chance to think about how best to share and contribute to SDG research in the context of their particular discipline. Ultimately, the intention is to facilitate change towards meeting relevant SDGs within the stated timeframe (i.e., by 2030).

Welcome R2R Workshop A participants,
Thank you for choosing to join in the discussions around Strategies for Improving Sustainability, as part of the R2R conference.

We want to hear from you about:
  • What you've been doing to increase alignment with the SDGs
  • What you've been doing to improve the sharing of information relating to achieving the SDGs with professionals and policymakers?
We'll be thinking about what more can be done, or what can be done better:
  • To increase alignment with the SDGs? (Are there gaps in existing resources?)
  • To improve communication of information relating to achieving the SDGs? (Are there gaps in existing resources?)
We look forward to hearing from you either in person or online tomorrow and on Wednesday 22 February.

The SDG Fellows were pleased at the amount of in-depth discussion that took place over the two days. While this format requires more preparation than a stand alone workshop, it affords good opportunities to get down to detail and give everyone a chance to feed into the debate. One new Fellow joined the group shortly after conference, and another delegate is interested in discussing potential areas of collaboration. Overall, this was a good experience, and to judge from the feedback, delegates also found it useful.

This was one of our most successful and highly-rated workshops, with an average survey score of 3.9 out of 4 and 100% positive ratings.
