Workshop D: Research Integrity Tools

What research integrity tools could support researchers?

Facilitators:
Christina Emery
♦ Senior Marketing Manager at Springer Nature
Ed Gerstner ♦ Director of Research Environment Alliances at Springer Nature
Laura Graham-Clare ♦ Director of Community Content at Springer Nature
Hazel Newton ♦ Director of Professional Development Solutions at Springer Nature (Facilitator)

In this session we will workshop with participants what a framework for robust institutional research integrity training could look like, and review existing resources, with the goal of developing community-led tools. We will share outcomes from our research so far, as well as feedback from a variety of stakeholders on the needs and requirements for research integrity training. This session will be of interest to researchers, research offices and research support staff from research institutions in particular.

A lot of the conversation was framed by Matt Hodgkinson, Research integrity and editorial policy at UKRIO, COPE and EASE. Small groups talked about key challenges and also brainstormed solutions. This followed some presentations by publishers who had handled mass retractions to share best practices.

Two facilitators have been added:
Dr Jo Appleford-Cook ♦ Training Manager, Research Integrity Group at Springer Nature
Natalie Harriman ♦ Research Integrity Manager, King’s College London

Dear R2R Workshop D participants,

Thank you for signing up to join in the discussions around research integrity, as part of the Researcher to Reader conference.

Here’s a flavour of what we’ll be discussing, in case you would appreciate the chance to formulate some thoughts in advance.

  • Who needs integrity training? Is it more critical to students, post-docs, PIs, or professors? Or everyone?
  • In your experience, what training needs do researchers have, on the topic of research integrity?
  • Do you know of any existing training tools and resources (please share links if possible)? Are there any gaps in existing resources?
  • What would an ideal training toolkit look like? How could different stakeholders engage researchers to use it?

We look forward to meeting you either in person or online on Tuesday 21 and Wednesday 22 February. If you have any questions in advance, please get in touch with us at [email protected] or via the online discussion forum.
